Does sterling silver make your fingers go green?

I want to buy my dad a sterling silver ring for his birthday from argos. And im just wondering if it will make his finger turn green?

Thanks.

NO sterling silver is just a type of silver that contains less actual silver therefore making it more inexpensive. The only kind of "silver" that will turn your fingers green is the fashion jewelry that is just colored silver and isn’t actually made of any silver. Your fingers turn green when the paint or polish starts to wear off and rubs onto your skin and mixes with the oil in your skin. Sterling silver won’t do that but make sure to polish it with a sterling silver polish cloth to make sure it doesn’t tarnish over time and don’t wear it in the pool or shower excessively otherwise it will tarnish more.

  2. The thing is, most silver isn’t very pure, it’s a mix of nickle (sometimes copper) and silver and it’s actually the nickle or copper which causes so many problems (like red welts, green skin, blisters etc.) many people are allergic to them, some can wear it on the skin with no problems but can’t use it for piercings, some can’t use it at all.
Green stains are not uncommon, it’s usually because the person has a very acidic skin which starts corroding the impure metal. The hands are especially prone as the skin is very thin so it produces more acidic oils to protect itself, it also comes into contact with a lot of chemicals (like soap) there’s a 50/50 chance and you really can’t tell, if your dad has a neutral sort of skin then it probably won’t cause any problems at all.
