How obvious is it if you have silver fillings?
Posted on November 22nd, 2009 by admin
I need to get fillings in a few of my teeth, 3 bottom molars and 2 top molars, and I can’t afford to get white ones so they’ll have to be silver.
I just wondered how noticable they are on a daily basis, like when you’re laughing etc, is it really obvious? And what do you think if you see people with quite a lot of fillings? Do you think it’s a bad thing?
Silver fillings are quite noticeable. It does not look that bad though, since it would be at the back of you mouth. The main concern would be to have your teeth fixed to prevent further decay.
Another point of concern would be the safety of silver fillings. I read somewhere that it could be bad for your health since it can contain small quantities of mercury.
I see people with lots of fillings but I don’t think it looks bad. If you can’t afford the white fillings, go for the silver ones for now and when you’ve saved enough money, you can have them changed later on. You can’t wait and save money now, coz your teeth needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

i dont pay attention to fillings. If they are in mollars, it is no big deal. i have many fillings (not because of brushing) and they dont bother me. you will get use to it soon.

Hardly noticable unless you laugh with your mouth wide. Look in the mirror try laughing, pulling expressions etc..to see if your back teeth show a lot. But don’t worry about it, it’s work that needs to be done so try not to get too paranoid.

The top you wont notice. The bottom you might if you have your mouth open big but I used to have silver in some back teeth before white and nobody ever said anything about it. Silver is more durable anyways. White is nice but its expensive and I think I paid around 40 for each white filling. I have a lot of fillings in front though so I had to get white for a lot.

My mouth is full of silver fillings and I try never to think about it. They saved my teeth and were all I could afford. So I just live with it.

I think silver fillings are harder and last longer, really not noticeable at all…

I have silver fillings, but it depends on how you laugh. If you have the kind of laughing OUT LOUD, You’d probably open your mouth big. When you talk, it’s not that obvious. It’s ok to have fillings, it’s just like a reminder to take better care of your teeth. It’s a good thing because the filling will protect your teeth from getting food in the hole in your teeth and it’ll be healthy(as long as you take good care of it).

I don’t really pay attention to fillings. No one laughs with their mouth completely wide open so it’s not noticeable.

Silver fillings aren’t the hot tip, from what I’ve read of it, they can emit metal gas etc. I would also think that they’d be MORE expensive than plastic fillings.
as far a seeing them see photo link.

I am one of those people who always looks at everyones teeth but only as I am so paranoid about my own, you can sometimes see the silver fillings when people laugh but it is better than seeing a rotting stump. Go with what you feel confident with and can afford then you know it is right for you as everyone is different

this is a clever question…
anyway, yes, silver filling are obvious mainly in the lower jaw teeth, but how much they are obvious, that depends on the size of the filling { the bigger the more obvious}, and on which tooth,{ the more anterior the more obvious}
in all cases it is obvious, but to have a filling is better than not to have it and keep cavities in teeth…
and when i see some one with fillings in teeth, i understand the this person is educated, and he\she have good life quality.
so go and have ur teeth treatment..
from ur question i know u r clever and educated…. good luck

I have many silver fillings. They won’t be that noticeable in back teeth. Plus they last longer than the tooth colored ones. I’d rather see a filling than a rotten tooth!!!
