Horace Silver 1976-Song For My Father
Posted on July 31st, 2009 by admin
Legendary Jazz Pianist Horace Silver in 1976. The original performance on the dvd was about 12:30, so I had to edit this. It has the wonderful intro, plus a Silver solo, then the theme again, and a great ending. From his dvd “Live at the Umbria Jazz Festival 1976″

Lucky you! I wish I had seen him live. I saw a film of Horace Silver on youtube in 2004, and he did not look very well as he was walking on stage, but he had that trademark smile. Anyone know how he is doing now?

Between 3:47 and 3:52, in the middle of his solo, Silver plays some notes of a very famous latin american song, a rumba whose name I don’t know. Is a citate to latin american music, whom he has been always devoted. Thanks for that, Horace. Jorge

Could be for …
Could be for copyright reasons. If you play standards (which are still under copyright) in public you or the venue where you play should pay to copyright organizations. Cord schemes alone can’t be under copyright. So if you put your own melody on the cords, there is no problem.
