What is with chunky necklaces worn by angels and yankees pitchers?

I noticed during playoffs games that the pitchers are wearing colorful chunky necklaces that look like they might be rope or chain. Does anyone know their significance? Why would they wear that?

Am not sure what it is called but i do know that those necklaces supposedly bring good luck.

They are Titanium necklaces made by a company called Phiten, http://www.phitenusa.com.
