What are some purposes for wearing a necklace?

I’m writing a report for my writing class on necklaces. I need to ask some people why they wear necklaces, so i was hoping you guys could help! :)
does anyone know how it originated, or any backround on the necklace? I’m having trouble finding information about it online.

- Some people have boney chests and like to conceal them under necklaces. My sister does that alot. She wears necklaces almost everyday for that reason.

-The make your neck appear longer and more defined.

- Some people try to make a fashion statement with bright, colorful, funky necklaces in wierd shapes, animals, etc.

- I used to wear a necklace that my dad gave me before he went overseas to Iraq so that when I looked at it I’d think of him.
