What is the difference between 14k Silver and 14k Gold?

Posted on October 3rd, 2009 by admin

What is the difference between a 14k Silver ring and a 14k Gold ring? What would be the price difference if both were the same in weight?

There is no 14K silver. Silver jewelry is either pure silver, sterling silver or silver plated. Sterling silver is the best quality, it wears well and tarnishes less than pure silver. Pure silver is soft and and scratch with too much wear and tear. Silver plate is merely base metal coated with a thin plating of silver. It’s cheap costume jewelry, at best.

Gold is a soft metal and needs to be mixed with harder metals to make it durable enough for jewelery. This called and "alloy" Pure gold is 24Karat. Karat refers to the quantity of real gold in the alloy, the higher the number, the more real gold. The higher the number also means the softer the gold and the more likely to wear out and wear down. 14 and 18K gold are the two most common karat levels, you get gold jewelry that stands up to most everyday wear and tear. It’s the two most common karats for wedding and engagement rings.20k gold is softer, but more brilliantly gold, more expensive and is used in special occasion jewelry that isn’t worn every day, such as cocktail rings, and fashion chains and necklaces. lower karat gold such as 10 and 12k is cheaper because it has less gold and more other metals mixed in. Watch out for "gold filled" and gold plated" these are very cheaply made, being base metal pieces with a thin coating of 24K gold. It’s not good quality, the thin gold plate can easily wear and flake off.

What’s the difference between 14k and 14kt jewelry?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

We sent a bunch of gold jewelry off to a good gold buyer and they sent back some bracelets that were clearly marked 14k mexico, 14k Italy. Was just wondering why they would send some back but buy over $700 dollars worth of gold and silver???

I’m sure they sent the pieces back because they weren’t gold. The karat markings have nothing to do with what’s really in the metal.
One can purchase a karat marking stamp and stamp their currency or their car or any other metal objects, yet those heretofore steel, copper, nickel, etc. objects aren’t magically transformed into gold by virtue of a stamping.

If i had a 14k gold locket in new condition with a 14k gold chain how much would it be worth?

Posted on September 21st, 2009 by admin

If i took it to a pawn shop?

I woudlnt take it to a pawn shop you will not get the full value. I tell all of my friends to send their stuff in to American Gold & SIlver Exchange. Because unlike the Cash 4 Gold people they can turn the watch around and sell it for consignment meaning more money for you!! Check out their website

Hope This Helped!!

What is 14k gold worth per ounce? I have 2 ounces and need cash. Dont want to get ripped off. Let me know asap?

Posted on September 15th, 2009 by admin

I have 14k gold bracelets. I weighed them and they are right at 2 ounces total. What is 14k gold worth per ounce?

I already spoke to one guy and he said 400 per ounce for 14k. Is this right or is he trying to rip me off?

24 Karat gold is about 1000 us dollars per ounce on the world markets. 14 karat gold is 14/24 pure gold which is .585 so it would stand to reason that you would get about 585 dollars.
I doubt you would be able to get that on the market. If you can get 400 per ounce take it. That is a fair deal.
