The knot that you make with the two center strands is the thing that will make it stay in one. You have to make sure you are doing it correctly. Maybe you didn’t make the forward knots with the two strands.

I always use the left. That’s why it’s called the forward knot. If you used the right, that would be the backward knot. If you watch my The Four Basic Knots video, you’d see what I mean. But you can actually use either one. I just use the forward knot.
