if this helps … if this helps anyone (i had to keep replaying it to get it) when you make the S, the end that you’re weaving goes down through the lower loop, and up through the upper loop. down being closer to your body, and vice versa
you could use shoe … you could use shoe string from a reel but shoe string that has been cut to the length needed for a shoe wouldn’t be long enough. you can pretty much use anythig like string, rope, maybe even wire.
Go to the army/navy … Go to the army/navy surplus and ask him where it is and you can also make it with buckles, which is easier i think. and it works better
