How much does it cost to shorten the bracelet of a steel watch?

Is it better going to Jared, or should I go to the mall and find a common jewelry shop? I have been told by my roommate that Jared is too expensive and they might ask 20 bucks for such a little job. My watch is worth 53 dollars, and thinking of spending 20 to shorten the bracelet seems ridiculous.
It doesn’t matter where you go, they all use the same exact parts, just some places charge a rediculous amount because they have a reputation and a name. I have a watch that I’ve broke the pins in plenty of times. It’s a fossil so I took it to a fossil store and they fixed it for free! The other times I called around to find the place that has the cheapest price for labor and parts, which was $4.00 at one of my local jewlers. You’re better off not paying that high price because if it breaks again you’ll just kick yourself for paying 20 bucks for that part.
