How does a touchstone on jewelry work?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

I need to know the physics behind how a jeweler can tell the authenticity of jewelry by using a touchstone. Can anyone explain this to me, even if you don’t know a whole lot about it?

first, i think you need to figure out the touchstone is used for which kind of jewelry? is it for diamond? sapphire? jade? you need to know different gemstones have its own features.

Where in the UK (ideally online) can I source interesting pendants for jewellery making?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

I’m talking about things like enamel postcards, teacups, Eiffel towers and ruby slippers the sort of charms and pendants you’d see on necklaces in Accessorize or Urban Outfitters?

There’s a few people selling these sorts of necklaces on eBay but I can’t figure out where they’re getting the pendants from!

Is there a wholesaler I should know about?!

Help would be much appreciated!

Try Fire Mountain Gems - I believe they ship everywhere. I’ve seen charms in themes that you could use for a pendant. Also, if you want to get really creative, they sell the materials & tools to make your own silver jewelry. I’m going to buy that sometime this year. Check their link. They have a great staff that can answer questions. And they have all kinds of charts, how-to videos etc…

How much would it cost to get a stainless steel necklace to be engraved?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

My boyfriend has told me that he would like to save up to engrave my stainless steel turk, a circular bar necklace that is locked in place. We want to engrave it with latin, 27 letters exactly, and maybe some roses. Does anyone know how much this would cost?

Engraving costs are decided by the engraver who will have to look at the item to be engraved, then the style of letters and artwork involved and the degree of difficulty for doing such a job. It can cost from $50 to about $75 based on what you mentioned.

The best thing to do is to take it to teh engraver and get an estimate. They do not charge for estimates.

Why do all male figure skaters wear those gold chains and pendants?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

I don’t always see crosses on them. I’ve seen the Chinese with luck charms on theirs. What’s Evgeni or Johnny Weir wearing then?

They were actually talking about that during the pairs the other night… there was a comment about one of the Chinese men wearing his gold chain during skating, and it’s because in Chinese culture gold is considered lucky/to bring good fortune, and the Chinese have long been superstitious. Therefore they wear the chains… My guess is either other cultures have similar beliefs, or they take a page from the Chinese book and wear them because, hey, what can it hurt?

What are those bracelets and necklaces called?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin

What are those bracelets and necklaces called that are supposed to help with ADD and focusing and they’re also supposedly good for your heart too. They have little magnets in them or something. There are usually two bands that are joined by a black plastic box type thing. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

How Scalar energy is embed itself into objects & how Scalar Pendants are helpful?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin

We see lot of advertisements on the subject and such pendant sale is a roaring business. If scientifically proven, why not governments think of large scale manufacturing and distribute it to every citizens?
Can anybody, who have actually used it, preferably those who have a science background, give their opinion?

Key phrase: "If scientifically proven".

Another key phrase: "scalar energy". WTF? That makes no sense, sorry. I doubt that anyone who has much of a science background would use such a thing. It’s woo, and it’s rather sad that sales are so good. Snake-oil, without any sort of science (other than a placebo effect) behind it.

How much should I sell my 14k gold chain for?

Posted on February 21st, 2010 by admin

I’m not talking about selling on cash4gold! I may post my gold chain on Craigslit. The chain is 22 grams 14k ..I bought it for $1300 in 2006 but I know the value of gold increased a lot since then. How much do you think I should sell for?

You can get a price check from the professionals at Empire Gold:

How do you package jewelry (necklaces and fishhook earrings) for a move?

Posted on February 21st, 2010 by admin

What is the best way to package jewelry for a move. I have a ton of necklaces and fishhook earrings and other small nick knacks that I’ve purchased while living in my current residence and I have to to move. Right now most of my jewelry is hanging on vanity trees and I’m wondering whats the best way to package them so they dont get tangled or damaged during the move.

When moving jewlery around you can get a box of snack sized or sandwich size ziplock bags and put each piece in its own baggie. Just toss all the baggies in a box that will contain them well ( without smashing the bags together) and of you go. Simple, effective, and cheap.

Is there a big visual difference in white gold and sterling silver ?

Posted on February 19th, 2010 by admin

I am purchasing a sterling silver deer charm for my boyfriend for valentines day. His necklace is 14 karat white gold but the charm in white gold is $400. If i end up purchasing the sterling silver charm would you notice the difference of sterling silver and white gold together on his necklace?

I don’t think you could notice too easily.. But some people can. Silver usually has a barely noticeable blueish silvery glow while white gold is a bit more solid looking & sometimes resembles yellow gold. White gold is a lot harder too. Just don’t buy him silver & tell him its white gold. Love never works out with lies.
