is white gold more valuable than 14k gold? what is the value per gram of white versus yellow gold?

Posted on January 11th, 2010 by admin

I have a friend with a pure white gold pearl necklace, 40+ years old. I also have about 23 grams of 14k gold I’d like to cash in.
1) Is white gold more valuable than gold gold?
2) What is 12/3/10 valeu of 23 gram of 14k gold?

First, 14 K yellow gold and 14 K white gold contain the same percentage of gold and are worth exactly the same per gram. The difference is the metal that the gold is alloyed with - that is all. No difference in value.
You can find the price of gold per troy ounce here:
http://www.kitco.com/market/
You can get the price per gram of 24K gold by dividing the price per troy ounce by 31.1.
Once you get that, the price per gram of 14K gold is 14/24 or 58.3% of the price of 24K gold.

What happens if i find gold or silver on the beach?

Posted on January 11th, 2010 by admin

if i were to find silver or gold coins on the beach(US), would i get to keep it? or how much do i have to pay for it? thx!
i was wondering if i found gold or silver (like spanish coins) on the beach (US) would i get to keep it? how much would i have to pay in taxes?

My understanding is that the law in most jurisdictions for a thing like that (which isn’t like a purse or some object that clearly belongs to someone else) is that the person who finds it gets to keep it. So congratulations! Mind if I offer some advice. Take the gold and sell it to an online store that specializes in buying gold for fair prices. I suggest http://www.refinity.com/

Is it possible to make a sterling silver and diamond ring smaller?

Posted on January 8th, 2010 by admin

My boyfriend gave me a sterling silver and diamond ring for Christmas but it is much too large. Is it possible to have a sterling silver ring made smaller? What would be the average cost to do so?

Any ring can be re sized as long as there’s enough metal that the ring won’t be warped or compromised. Different jewelers have different prices but it shouldn’t be all that expensive but If you live around a jewelry district, it should be anywhere around $ 10.00 to $ 20.00 to have it done. Check the internet for jewelers in your area they might have prices on there sites, but it should cost around $20.00 to $60.00.

How much is 14k gold worth? Anyone have a general idea? Ever sell gold?

Posted on January 8th, 2010 by admin

I have a small wedding band made of half white gold and half gold gold(these are 14k). I also have a bigger 1970’s pimp ring which looks like gaudy swiss cheese(which is also 14k). I know you can’t give me an exact figure, but I’d like to have a basic idea before i sell it so i don’t get ripped off. If it isn’t worth anything, let me know. Thanks so much!

I pawned some pendants & rings. She said they’d melt it down.

Three months later I saw them selling it, as is, and in more than 3 digits. They’ll make money on it, IF THEY ARE SOLD.

How much would putting a cubic zirconium diamond on a necklace cost?

Posted on January 8th, 2010 by admin

It looks to be about a 1 1/2 carat cubic zirconium loose diamond. I’d like to put it on a necklace and give it to my girlfriend for Christmas. How much do u think it would cost to put on a necklace?

some shops on the internet offer snap in settings in gold or silver. You can just push in your stone and it’s all finished. You will have to measure the stone to buy the exact matching pendant.

how do you connect pendants to necklace chains?

Posted on January 8th, 2010 by admin

i want to make some necklaces. how can you connect the pendant to the chain?

Try a jump ring. You might be able to find them at Wal-Mart. Essentially, it’s a little metal ring that isn’t welded shut. All you have to do is open it a little, slip in the pendant and the chain, then close it again. Use pliers for the really small and stiff rings. Larger ones can be done by hand.

What’s a fair price to sell your 14k and 18k gold per gram to dealer?

Posted on January 1st, 2010 by admin

I have some 14k gold to sell. One dealer offered 16.00 per gram. Is this a fair price based on current value of gold, or am I being taken?

$16 a gram for 14k is pretty damn good. I know in vegas right now alot of places are offering between $10 and $12 a gram for 14k. If you wanna know what the total worth per gram is you just have to do some basic math.

Goto monex.com and look at live prices, as I write this now its at $1,113 per ounce. Now to figure out the per gram price we have to take 1113 / 31.103 X the purity of gold(31.103 is a troy ounce, which is whats used in gold trading), which in this case is 14k so the purity is .585 which comes out to $20.93. Now $16 may seem cheap when compared to $21 but they must make some money also.

If your dealing with a pawn shop then they will resell the gold to a company that melts it down. They get anywhere between 90% and 98% of the $20.93(or whatever the price is that day) from the melt down company.

If you wanna do the math on your 18k pieces then the purity is .750 instead of the .585 of 14k.
