What lights do I need for jewellery photogragphy at home?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

I use a Nikon D300 with a 50mm 1.4f lens and a white cube. I do not have any special lights at home for this purpose. Could anyone please recommend some table top lights and / or the appropriate bulbs for shooting pictures of jewellery at home. Hoping to turn this into a part time business

What’s the difference between 14k and 14kt jewelry?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

We sent a bunch of gold jewelry off to a good gold buyer and they sent back some bracelets that were clearly marked 14k mexico, 14k Italy. Was just wondering why they would send some back but buy over $700 dollars worth of gold and silver???

I’m sure they sent the pieces back because they weren’t gold. The karat markings have nothing to do with what’s really in the metal.
One can purchase a karat marking stamp and stamp their currency or their car or any other metal objects, yet those heretofore steel, copper, nickel, etc. objects aren’t magically transformed into gold by virtue of a stamping.

What are some creative ways to travel with jewelry?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

I am leaving for vacation in two days and I don’t have time to shop for a jewelry roll or travel jewelry box. Any ideas for creating one with stuff from around the house? I have some crafting skills, but no sewing machine or anything like that. I just need space for a couple of necklaces, bracelets and pairs of earrings and way to keep them from tangling.

I use an adjustable key ring for my necklaces and then affix it to a hanger.

When I was in Asia I saw necklaces advertised as cultured pearl necklaces but the pearls were an inch?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

in diameter, so could this be true? They were not too expensive but I can’t remember how much now. Maybe $50. But a lot cheaper than regular size pearl necklaces in the jewellers in Australia. I heard you can tell by sucking them and feeling the unevenness of the coating, but you can hardly do that while the shop assistant is watching. How big can pearls be before you know they are fake?

The size you describe is when you know they’re fake, oh and the $50 price tag would be another tip off I would think.

How do I prevent my necklace from changing a dif color?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

I bought a really cheap silver colored necklace from like ardene or clairs or something. But I bought it a while ago. I juss found it last night and it is kinda turning like a brownish bronze color. How can I get rid of it and stop it from happening??

thats happening to all of mine too. thats because the metal they make it out of is cheap and isnt really silver colored naturally, they just painted over it with silver. now that you wear it a lot, you sweat and it rubs against your skin and the color comes off.

you can’t stop it from happening unless you stop wearing the necklace. if you really want to preserve it i suggest you paint it silver or just buy a new one.

How practical is silver jewellery in the long term?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

I have seen some stunning silver jewellery recently, really really beautiful. In particular a really lovely wedding band. My concern is, does it not scratch easily, tarnish and look dull after a little while?

After a few years of marriage and wearing it day in day out, would it look terrible?

Its not a cost thing, i just like silver and would like this particular
wedding band :)

I know nothing about silver, or silver care, so any advice would be amazing :)
silver jewellery is very practical for regular use and long term.It always looks clean and shiny and does not lose much value over time.as for cleaning if it starts to look dull get some vinegar and washing up liquid and it will shine like new rinse in cold water .but it could be years before it will need that good luck.

Can my cheap jewelry be plated with sterling silver?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

I have a few pieces of cheap jewelry that I bought at places like Claire’s and H&M that are made out of nickel or copper but were coated with some kind of silver coating. This coating is now coming off, turning bluish, irritating my skin and smelling pretty bad. But, these are my favorite pieces of jewelry and I’d like to continue wearing them. Can I take them to a jewelry store and have them plated with sterling silvsilver? How much would that cost?

yes it sure can it will cost about 100 dollars

How to make jewelry to fit a certain gemstone?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

My history teacher gives out real gems when we get the highest score on his tests, and I’ve recently gotten one myself. I picked out my moms favorite color because her birthday is soon, and was wondering how I could go about getting a necklace or a ring to put the stone inside?
Should I just go to a jewelry shop and ask them to put the stone inside one? Or…?
It’s around the size of a pinkie nail, if that makes much a difference, and looks like an average birth stone.
Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, take it to a pro. Otherwise it’ll look half fast…

What are the silver linings in the clouds of your storms?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

Are they simply silver linings that make you happy, and help you endure the storms, or are they silver linings because they help rid of the storms, and ultimatley, a need for a silver lining?

storms are seen and brewing, silver linings are 24/7, 369.
They vary with the circumstances yet remain constant. My
silver lining is working well, thank you for asking.
