How to make own jewellery and then sell it on website?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

I was thinking about setting up an online jewellery business. But how would I make the jewellery and where can I get the chains, beads, etc etc?

I wouldn’t advise trying to do this unless you’re already very accomplished at making jewelry. There are a lot of people who are trying to sell jewelry online, some on eBay, some on Etsy, and others have their own dedicated websites. Very few of them, even the most talented, are making much money. Remember, too, that you’re going to be competing with the people in third world countries who will work all day for the equivalent of one US dollar. This goes for any labor, skilled or unskilled. For instance, I’m quite a good crocheter and knitter, but I will never be able to compete against the people in the third world countries who will knit and crochet for almost nothing.

As for the components, well, just do a search on "jewelry findings" and you will find a gazillion sites offering the components.

How do I remove a knot from a fine sterling silver chain?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

I recently purchased a pendant/fine sterling silver chain for a gift. The chain arrived in a knot that I cannot remove easily. I have tried using the pin method and the oil method without resolution. Does anyone have another idea besides using a jeweler? My friend brought a chain to a jeweler and the jeweler broke the chain in pieces.

try another jeweler, they usually dont break it. it was a bad jeweler.

Can you put charms on a Blackberry Pearl?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

You know how you can buy cute charms to decorate your cell phone? I was wondering if you could do that with a blackberry pearl. Is there something you could loop a charm through to make it stay? It is hard to tell from images on a computer.

Thanks.

Yeah it’s a place where you can put your charm its on the side with the volume keys close to the bottom of the phone.

What does dipped in gold and 24k gold plated mean? Will it look alright with a 14k gold necklace?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

Im talking about those gold dipped leaf pendants. They look nice on the internet, but how do they look in person?

I haven’t seen those pendants. They obviously don’t dip anything in molten gold, it’s painted on somehow. I do understand plating, however. Although gold is yellow, almost all jewelry is made of gold alloys, because pure gold is very soft. Depending on what you mix it with, gold alloys can appear silvery, pink, green, blue, purple, and I have heard, but not yet seen, black. Your 14K necklace is made of 14/24 gold, and 10/24 other things. So the color may be slightly different that something made of 24K gold.

What is the best jewelry to wear with a golden-yellow prom dress?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

I have a short golden-yellow prom dress with a black beaded belt from BCBG and I need some ideas about what jewelry I should wear with it. Thanks!

If the belt is beaded, I would go with black beads. Try to find something that matches the belt as to really accentuate it and make it stand out. DO NOT wear silver!

A lot of factors affect what you should wear exactly. If your dress is strapless, wear long earrings to accentuate your shoulders, but if your hair is up, I would go with a thinner strand so the earrings wont distract from the outfit.

Pearls are also a good choice if you ditch the belt, but you may want to keep the belt depending on shape of the dress so your waist wont get lost in the fabric.

Hope that helps! :)

Can i put my taxco silver vintage jewelry in a liquid solution-style jewelry cleaner?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

It has some blueish/greenish colored areas ,but I have no idea if that’s turquoise or some tinted enamel. How should I clean the silver? Should I assume it’s sterling silver? Does that make a difference? It’s old and badly tarnished…thanks!
just to clarify, the blueish/greenish areas are stones or something…the metal itself is not turning blue/green. It’s just silver but tarnished.

Yeah you can use jewelry cleaner or do this:
Cover the inside bottom of a heat-proof glass dish bowl with a piece of aluminum foil, shiny side up.
Place the tarnished silver in the bottom of the dish, on the aluminum foil.
Add 1 heaping tablespoon of baking soda, and then slowly pour boiling water to cover the piece. The tarnish will gradually collect on the aluminum foil.
Remove your silver, rinse thoroughly and dry.
If you live near a jeweler, she/he can tell you if its turquoise and what sort of silver it is, before you even clean it.

How many particles of gold atoms are in the bracelet?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

A bracelet containing 0.200 mol of metal atoms is 75% gold. How many particles of gold atoms are in the bracelet?

first we get 75% of that 0.200 mol, to get the number of moles of gold.

(0.75)(0.2) = 0.15

we have 0.15 moles of gold therefore.

multiply 0.15 by avogadro’s number

(0.15)(6.02×10^23) = 9.03 x 10^22

hope i helped. goodluck :)

Where can I find concho pendants with rhinestones?

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by admin

I’m looking to start making chunky/ western necklaces you would likely see at cattle shows. I have looked around and I am seeing concho pendants with rhinestones. I’ve googled for places to buy them at a very cheap price and have had no luck finding what I’m looking for. Any ideas on how to make them as well. Thanks
