What to do if jeweler swapped my platinum engagement ring band for 14k gold?

Posted on January 23rd, 2010 by admin

I took my platinum ring in to the same place it was bought to have it re-sized. I didn’t look at the inscriptions until I got home, but it now says 14k instead of 95 plat and it feels much lighter. I stupidly didn’t notice while I was at the shop. Other than taking it back and hoping they make it right, anything else I can do? I’m now worried that they also swapped my diamond without me knowing. Completely panicked now.

Ask them. Sue them. That’s heartless.

Wow… It does sound like they swapped it. What scum. I’d speak to them and make sure it wasn’t a mistake… maybe they had another they were working on that looked the same? I’d report them to the better business bureau as well. It’s easy enough to check if a diamond is real- you can even take it in to a pawn shop and make sure the diamond isn’t cubic zirconia or something. Sometimes you can tell if you look at the diamond and it throws off more fire than it did before.
