I’m not talking about selling on cash4gold! I may post my gold chain on Craigslit. The chain is 22 grams 14k ..I bought it for $1300 in 2006 but I know the value of gold increased a lot since then. How much do you think I should sell for?

   The answer is really "what will someone pay for it". go on craigslist and see what other people are selling gold chains for because that is who you are competing with. You might also go to a reputable jewelry store in your neighborhood and ask them what it it worth.

   22 grams = about 3/4 oz. 14K is just under 60% gold. The current price of gold is just under $1100/oz. That puts the melt value at less than $500. The value as a gold chain has NOTHING to do with the value of the gold. the chain is worth what someone will pay for it. YOU won’t get out of it what you paid.

   When you bought the chain, you paid the retail price, which is the cost of the gold + labor to make it + wholesaler’s margin + retailer’s margin which includes operating cost and cost of carrying inventory.
   Now you want to sell it. You will not get the retail price for this chain but the price for the gold content in this chain.
   The worth of gold when coming from a manufacturer comes to around $450 (that is the base price for 14K gold today for your 22gm chain).
   But the buyers will offer you what they deem is fair, depending upon their buying model.

   You can also try eBay - maybe someone will pay a bit more but then the fees will eat up a nice chunk of your profits there!
